In November of 2014, the Illinois Community Health Worker (CHW) Advisory Board was created.  A 15-member board was appointed by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Director. The board will advise the Governor, IDPH and the legislature on all matters impacting the effective work of CHWs across the state, including the training and certification processes.

Signed into law in August of 2014, the CHW Advisory Board is composed of CHWs from across the state and individuals representing healthcare and social services, health workforce policy and institutions of higher education.

The IL CHW Advisory Board has been meeting monthly since early January and has made significant progress in engaging stakeholders and experts to create recommendations to advice on matters that impact CHWs in Illinois. To learn more about the work of the CHW Advisory Board you can go here.
